Edinburgh Rugby’s Fijian contingent may soon rise to three, according to the country’s sevens coach. And another countryman could also be headed for Scotland.

Gareth Baber has told Fiji Broadcasting Corporation that sevens forward Mesulame Kunavula is negotiating with the Scottish outfit. Any move will depend on the 23 year old securing a work permit allowing him to play in the Guinness PRO14.

Baber stated that Kunavula is in discussions.

“He is still in negotiation with Edinburgh and part of that is he has to sort his visa out and then eventually take up a permanent contract with Edinburgh”, the Welshman was quoted as saying. “As I’ve said before, obviously players are getting opportunities like this and it’s important for them to pursue those.”

The back row player is also attracting interest from France, with Bordeaux Begles keen on securing his services.

Should he complete the transfer, Kunavala will become a team mate of fellow Fijians Senitiki Nayola and Viliame Mata. The latter is a firm fans’ favourite at Edinburgh. He has shown stunning form this season. Last month, he extended his contract by a year.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Sun reported that Sevens captain Kalione Nasoko could also head for Scotland. He is said to be a target for Glasgow Warriors.

Both he and Kunavala could have a month long trial with the Scottish clubs before signing a contract. Should the moves proceed, the duo would join their new clubs in November.
