Luke Fitzgerald, former British and Irish Lion, has labelled Danny Cipriani as a “coward” who is not fit to represent his country.

The Irishman made his comments on his Podcast ‘The Left Wing’; he stated that he thought the Gloucester man was a good player, but wasn’t quite the full package:

“I rate Danny, I just don’t think he is international class. He has too many holes in his game,” said the former Irish winger.

The biggest hole in his game, and the main reason I wouldn’t be picking him ahead of guys like Owen Farrell or George Ford is his defence is poor and, to be honest, he’s a bit of a coward.

I played against him when we (Leinster) beat Wasps  well, but he is so quick, has beautiful hands, and is a nice kicker. But he just can’t stay on the straight and narrow and it is sad to see.

He’s got the full package and he should have been earning a million a year for 10 years at the top of the English game, but his personality defects have caught up with him.

He is a sad case in a lot of ways because he has so much potential. How are you going to pick him ahead of a guy like Farrell who is working hard all the time?

You just can’t have people like Cipriani because he is compromising the team the whole time.”
