BIG Statement

The man who has officially replaced Paul Gustard as England’s head defence coach has been making some big claims.

England had a very impressive 18 run winning streak during 2017 (matching the All Blacks record) however recent form has not quite been the same from the England squad. England currently sit fifth in the world rankings after losses to Scotland, Ireland, France and South Africa (in South Africa).

With the Rugby World Cup now less than a year away, it is clear that England want to get back up in the world rankings so they can be as competitive as possible in the World Cup and it seems the new man thinks it’s possible.

John Mitchell said:

“I am very comfortable in my own skin in where I am at and what I’ve got to do, I really believe that England can get better and can be the best within a year’s time – I really do believe that.”

Why is he so confident you say?..

“Because of what I’ve seen in the past. They (the AB’s) are outstanding, but I guess what gives us all life is that it is a World Cup year – and a World Cup does close the gap.”

With the Autumn internationals closing in rapidly, England will hope they can get off to a flyer against South Africa, before they face the All Blacks the week after..
