Israel Folau has once again gone out his way to alienate those people who pay good money to watch him play with a series of bizarre Instagram posts.
‘If you go out to nightclubs or drink, in effect you are going to hell’ he proclaimed in his latest Instagram post.
Israel is entitled to his Christian beliefs. The hypocrisy is astonishing; he earns millions from sponsors and fans who rather enjoy a drink and a dance!
His Australia Rugby Union contract is significantly funded by sponsors that include Bet365 (gambling) and YENDA (beer company). It seems Israel has a somewhat flexible belief system.
It is the exact thing that these companies do that Folau is shunning on his Instagram, yet essentially by playing for Australia Folau is promoting these companies.
In the past Folau has revealed that he drank and partied to excess, particularly after moving from Melbourne to the Brisbane Broncos. He also admitted his ego got the better of him when he was a young rugby league star earning praise from all corners.
“It got really bad,” Folau said. “I just got caught up in the alcohol, women and all that sort of stuff”.
Folau was raised as a Mormon but admitted he didn’t really embrace religion until he suffered a serious ankle injury in 2011. It seems that now he has converted his belief system he is quite happy to belittle others who act in a way that he once acted. Self-righteous, recently quit smokers often annoy others with their judgment of those still smoking. Israel somehow manages to take it to a whole new level. It’s not annoying, it’s offensive and anger-provoking.

To all the lukewarm Christians out there, you think you can do whatever you like during the wk. eg: go out to night clubs, get drunk, have sex not married and many other things that go against God, and then turn up to church on sunday and still claim to be a Christian? You're being deceived and led by Satan, repent and turn away from your evil ways and come to the Lord Jesus Christ otherwise you'll end up in hell. ____________ They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him , being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
Titus 1:16 KJVA _____________ This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoreth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
Matthew 15:8 KJVA _____________ So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew thee out of my mouth.
Revelation 3:16 KJVA
This is by no means the first time his comments have caused controversy, his utterances on gay rights have hurt and angered many, including his teammate, David Pocock, who is a great advocate of equal rights for the LGBTQ+ community.
Shockingly, Folau escaped unpunished for his outburst. I wonder if a more disposable member of the team would have escaped without sanction.
Israel needs to spend his time focussing on rugby and not on preaching to the wider world with his narrow and deeply offensive views.
My imagination may stretch to the possibility that God might judge me. But, Israel Folau? Really?!
Cannot wait for ThirstyThursdays tomorrow!
