The Tigers did not have the ideal start to their 2018/19 campaign when they took the long journey down south only to suffer a heavy defeat to Exeter Chiefs at Sandy Park (40-6).

It’s evident that Leicester feel as though they need to mix things up in order to progress as last season they failed to make the play offs (for the first time in 14 years) and the club want to get back to their winning ways of 2008/09 and 2009/10.

Assistant coach Geordan Murphy will take the reins in an interim-position until a suitable replacement can be found.

Chairman Peter Tom CBE made the following statement in response to the changeup:

“Matt was appointed head coach in April 2017 on the basis of his previous Premiership experience, but we believe the time is right to make this change in the best interest of the Tigers moving forward.”

Mark Bakewell, Boris Stankovich and Brett Deacon will also be at the helm along with Geordan Murphy.
