Two and a half years after he was let go by England Rugby, Andy Farrell has turned down the opportunity to return to the England camp.

Farrell worked under Stuart Lancaster at England for 3 years and following on from that was released by Eddie Jones to make way for a new coaching setup. Farrell in turn joined Ireland.

Farrell was a key part of the Irish coaching set up when they were crowned Six Nations Grand Slam Winners and earlier this year has extended his contract with Ireland to 2020 – that’s a year longer than Joe Schmidt’s current deal.

It is now believed that former All-Blacks head coach, John Mitchell has been recruited for the English coaching job instead. Mitchell is currently with Super Rugby franchise the Blue Bulls and the deal hinges on compensation being agreed with the RFU.
