England man Danny Care is shocked that his team-mate for the Argentina tour George Ford was not included in Warren Gatland’s selection for the Lions tour of New Zealand.
Ford has impressed all in both a club and England shirt since his career started in 2010; putting question marks over why he was not chosen to join Gatland’s 41 man squad. There were some big names in contention for the fly half spot for the Lions, with Farrell, Sexton and Biggar being the lucky ones to get a call up. Although Gatland’s options are well justified, it is still questioned why he was not included after being dubbed as one of the favourites for a spot.
Care expressed his shock in a pre game press conference, saying; “I can’t believe he’s not further down under, to be honest,” which is understandable after a decent season with Bath and an impressive Six Nations.
Care went on to say; “He can do everything and he makes it look so simple. I think that’s the key thing for a fly-half. He is loud, he bosses the boys around, I know where he is at all times,” With Ford being young (24 years old), it is highly likely that we will see him in a Lions jersey sooner rather than later; especially after Care backed his world class abilities.
With the maturity and strong leadership he has displayed over the past couple of seasons, especially this summer without the experienced faces in the England squad, he could prove to have been useful for the Lions.
With what we have seen from the former Bath star, would you have included him in the tour?
