With the Lions tour taking priority this Summer, the home nations are being forced to put some uncapped names in their squads as they go on tour in preparation for the upcoming 2019 World Cup in Japan.
Ireland are no different, with 8 un-named faces featuring in the squad for their tour of the United States and Japan this summer.
Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt has said to Irish Rugby “..The focus is really on challenging the younger players to cope with the heat and foreign conditions, as well as the speed and physicality of Test rugby.” This comes after only a handful of Ireland’s experienced faces have been savoured from the Lions tour next month, leading to Schmidt looking to the youth of Ireland’s ranks to compete in their tour.
