As pre season is soon to be (if not already) upon us, we thought we would put together a list of the must-have items. Nobody wants to be the guy still wearing stick mitts on day 1 of training (unless your name is Andy Goode, then you do what you want).

Trusox have been very successful in football and are now gaining momentum in rugby. The sock is worn over your normal team sock and provides footwear stability to stop your feet from sliding. We believe it is a small investment that will pay for itself on the first wear.

Training Vests

Pre season sees the rare occasions where the sun shines on a Tuesday / Thursday evening while we train. This means a singlet is critical for those gruelling pre season fitness sessions. The England Help for Heroes vest in particular not only looks great, but more importantly a percentage goes to a great cause.

Moulded Boots

Hard summer grounds mean one thing to at least 12 of the 15 playing positions – moulded studs. Get your pair in for the new season before the mud sets in.

Under Armour and New Balance are two relative new comers on the rugby scene and gaining ground with some professional players too. Our favourite at the minute are the New Balance Furon Pro FB.

Not for everyone but a key part of a lot of rugby player’s training. If it is your thing, then this time of year is a great for finding discounted deals online.

The 1kg MyProtein Impact Whey protein is very popular and in our opinion provides the best value for money.

Training Equipment

Depending on your level of commitment, you may be keen enough to carry out more pre season work outside of your club training. Using foam rollers after training and games has been proven to help with recovery and are really popular among the physio world.
