The player at the centre of the shocking incident that sickened the rugby world has reportedly been handed a 99-year ban by his club.
Prop Cipriano Martinez is said to have been dismissed by Pucara Club after violently kicking an opponent in the head in an unprovoked attack during a match against San Albano.
Martinez could still face separate action from World Rugby and official Argentine Rugby bodies.
Footage emerged of the prop brazenly carrying out the off-the-ball assault on second row Juan Masi in full view of officials, team-mates and the crowd watching the First Division Union de Rugby Buenos Aires match.
A club statement said: “Pucará Club renounces the anti-sporting conduct which occurred in the match against San Albano. We wish to extend appropriate apologies to the injured player, to the San Albano Club, and to rugby in general. Pucará Club has taken disciplinary measures.”
