The discarded players are Ross Moriarty, Rob Evans, Scott Andrews, Kristian Dacey, Tyler Morgan, Gareth Anscome, Eli Walker.

Of the squad Gatland said “Alun Wyn Jones picked up a medial strain at the weekend so that’s a couple of weeks. We’ve picked 5 locks so if people pick up knocks we can cover them. We need to make sure the strong is squad. That was a tough call and a lot of players have worked hard. We’re already carrying Samson Lee and Liam Williams with injuries and Gareth Anscombe is unlucky. We felt we couldn’t afford to carry more injuries.”

“We know we have a couple of players to come back in Samson and Liam who can come back in. We’ve picked Matthew Morgan who we think has X Factor.

“That’s important and he can cover a few positions. There’s a good balance there and hopefully with some skill included. Last week was a tight game but we offloaded and played some positive rugby. I was very, very pleased with the way we played.”

“Alex Cuthbert hasn’t probably played as well as he’d like but we’ll get him up to speed. He has such a good record for us and we’ll make sure he gets the ball into his hands.”
