Proposed ANZACs vs British Lions Match – Who Would Win?

There is a proposed match between the ANZACs (Australia and New Zealand) and the British and Irish Lions, to celebrate 100 years since World War 1 when the ANZACs fought together first. This match is proposed to take place at Twickenham at the end of 2015, after the Rugby World Cup but would you support this match or do you consider it to be just another meaningless rugby match to add to an already long season? It is difficult to know if players would be able to give their best after the Rugby World Cup, or just see it as a festival game?

The ANZACs XV would surely go into this game as favourites, although they would be playing away from home. But who would you include in the ANZACs XV? Would you mainly stack it with All Blacks or would you pick combinations of players like Will Genia and Quade Cooper or would you solely pick based on the ability of a specific player?

Given that this game would be played in 2015 then Sonny Bill Williams would be eligible, but would you pick him ahead of Maá Nonu?

Would you pick Jerome Kaino, Steven Luatua, Liam Messam or Scott Higginbotham to wear the Number Six jersey?

Richie McCaw at openside or Michael Hooper?

Which of the two Israels would you pick at fullback? Or would you go for Ben Smith or Charles Piutau?

Who would wear the Number 10 jersey, Quade Cooper, Dan Carter, Aaron Cruden or Beauden Barrett?

In the name of fairness I think there needs to be a sprinkling of Wallabies in this team.

15 Israel Folau
14 Ben Smith
13 Conrad Smith
12 Ma’a Nonu
11 Julian Savea
10 Dan Carter
9 Will Genia
8 Kieran Read
7 Richie McCaw
6 Scott Higginbotham
5 James Horwill
4 Sam Whitelock
3 Owen Franks
2 Stephen Moore
1 Tony Woodcock

16 Dane Coles
17 Charlie Faumuina
18 James Slipper
19 Brodie Retallick
20 Michael Hooper
21 Aaron Smith
22 Aaron Cruden
23 Sonny Bill Williams

Who would you select in your ANZACs team to play the British and Irish Lions?  Who would win, the ANZACs or the British and Irish Lions?

Given the limited preparation for this game it would potentially be a relatively disjointed game, but despite playing away from home, the ANZACs would surely win.  Although given that Australia and New Zealand will most likely both end up in the semi-finals at least in the Rugby World Cup then the British and Irish Lions may have the advantage of fresher players.

  1. the team on the pic is bullshit, what the fick is Kyle Godwin doing there and for both teams, where is Israel Dagg!!! #BULLSHIT

    • no you are wrong. #yousuck #kyleisgod #hashtag #shhhhh #now #youknownothingjohnsnow # your bad at life

    • no. you are wrong. #yousuck #kyleisgod #whoevenareyou #doyouplayrugby? #youknownothingjohnsnow #shhhhh now #lickem let the grown ups talk shhhh now

    • Hahaha some die hard Western Force fans or trolls I suppose. Ignore them, you are definitely right haha wtf is Kyle Godwin doing there, he’s not even like 10th string for the Wallabies. I would have to say though Dagg would be on the bench imo because, although I do think he’s better than Folau, I dont believe his current form is. There’s still a lot of time till Super Rugby ends though to see whose form will be better. Also Quade Cooper could sneak in before Cruden purely because of combination purposes, I don’t want to compare Cruden and Quade it’ll give me a headache…they are both so good but also have some annoying flaws.

  2. how about a 4 1/4s game roll on roll off and play them all old and new and make it a true festival of rugby at its best

  3. Sonny Bill Williams would not come before Ma’a Nonu in my books, and Kyle Godwin is useless.

  4. Why would you even put sonny bill Williams in here the guys playing league? So don’t consider him for any union team

  5. Would like to see something like this.

    15. Israel Folau
    14. Ben Smith
    13. Beauden Barrett
    12. Ryan Crotty
    11. Nick Cummins
    10. Aaron Cruden
    9. Will Genia
    8. Kieran Read
    7. Michael Hooper
    6. Liam Messam
    5. Brodie Retallick
    4. Will Skelton
    3. Ben Franks
    2. Stephen Moore
    1. Tony Woodcock

    16. Dane Coles
    17. Charlie Faumuina
    18. James Slipper
    19. Sam Whitelock
    20. Steven Luatua
    21. Aaron Smith
    22. Quade Cooper
    23. Charles Piutau

Out with the old, in with the new.
