Esher put in a much improved performance against table toppers Doncaster but ultimately it wasn’t enough as the side from Molesey Road succombed to a 2nd straight defeat. Having put the disappointment of the Tynedale away defeat behind them Esher was keen to amend the dismal start to 2014 however Doncaster proved the more clinical side as tries from scrum-half Bruno Bravo, flanker Michael Hills and winger Dougie Flockhart with the former Esher man adding a penalty and a conversion.
Fly-half Paul Roberts also added a penalty. Esher got on the scoresheet through an interception try courtesy of centre Joe Brown but the execution from the EEE’s didn’t show with Doncaster’s line speed making attacking fluency rather difficult. Fly-half Tom Whelan added three penalties for Esher but the home side couldn’t cope with the attacking prowess of the Doncaster back division.
A positive sign for Esher was in the scrum regularly disrupting Doncaster ball and putting the visitors under pressure. The EEE’s will be disappointed not to come away with any form of bonus point but they have a lot of encouraging signs they can take into the game with local rivals Rossyln Park in 2 weeks time.
