Newcastle Falcons have learnt who they will face for the coming Aviva Premiership season after the fixture list was announced on Thursday. The Falcons will start with a tough home trip at Kingston Park against Bath before taking on Sale Sharks away followed by current champions Leicester Tigers at Welford Road. February looks like it may be the biggest task for the Geordie side though, with the away trip against Bath at The Rec, before taking on Chris Robshaw’s Harlequins at The Stoop and then welcoming George North to the North East with a fixture on the 23rd against Northampton Saints.
The Falcons will be keen to start well under Dean Richards and have already began with their pre season training in their bid to avoid a relegation battle in their first season back. They will of course be doing it without star man Jimmy Gopperth after his move to Leinster, but will welcome new faces into the club. The Falcons will end the season at home vs Exeter Chiefs. Speaking at BT Tower following the media launch for BT Sports and their Aviva Premiership coverage, coach Dean Richards remained tight lipped about the Falcons prospects stating ‘’ “I’m not starting the season with a goal in mind’’. If the Falcons do bring in a few more faces of strength and depth with Richard’s tactical knowledge they should be able to survive in at the first time of asking.
