Cardiff based Rhiwbina rugby club have today been able to announce that their new shirt sponsor is none other than rock band Def Leppard.
The rocking collaboration was negotiated by Rhiwbina coach Richard Proctor who does artwork for the band. Lead singer Joe Elliott said he was delighted to sponsor the team “because Richard is a long-time friend of mine and he works closely with the band”. Although he did admit “When he told me he needed a sponsor, I jumped at the chance, only afterwards did I realise it was a rugby and not a footy team!”
Whilst the band are notorious fans of home-town football clubs Sheffield Wednesday and United respectively, they are now however so familiar with rugby and may be looking for some guidance from their new team. However both the band and the young rugby players seem excited about the collaboration despite naysayers from opposition teams who struggle to believe the club is genuinely sponsored by the band.
Could this be the start of several more collaborations between rugby clubs and rock bands?
