Springbok and Bulls hooker Schalk Brits has been banned for four weeks, following his red card against the Sharks in Durban.

Brits and Van Der Merwe both received red cards for their roles in the alteraction.

The 27-year-old Van Der Merwe received a three week ban.

This was Brits first ever red card and this in a 17-year career.

Akker van der Merwe was clearly the instigator with a head-butt which was followed by a few punches.

The Bulls can feel a bit disappointed with the outcome of the committee which comprises of  Adam Casselden SC (chairperson) as well as Eroni Clarke and former Springbok back Stefan Terblanche.

The 37-year -old Brits apologized to the referee and his team mates before he was given the marching orders.

The Blue Bulls Rugby Union already appealed the decision and the hearing will take place at 07:00 on Tuesday (SA Time) before a new judicial committee.

The committee will comprise of Helen Morgan (chairperson), David Croft and former Springbok prop, Lawrence Sephaka.

Brits will only miss three matches against the Jaguares, Reds and Stormers as the Bulls have a bye during the weekend of 19/20 April.

Brits and Van Der Merwe made peach after the match and even had a beer together in the locker room.

The Bulls hooker has played in 70 Super Rugby matches and 11 test matches.

He played the bulk of his career for Saracens making 216 appearances.

He joined the English side in 2009 after making 51 appearances for the Stormers between 2006 and 2009.
