The proposed changes to the Champions Cup qualifying stage are due to be made next season.

The current selection from the Guinness Pro12 sees the top 7 teams (one side from each of; Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Italy) go through to the tournament. Whereas, at the end of next season, any seven sides can qualify from the Pro12 regardless of where they are from.

The competition directors have said this change is to ‘..strengthen both the Champions and Challenge Cup’. Who thinks that the changes will make the tournaments stronger with the race for a place in either tournament being more open than ever.
