Premiership’s appeal to reduce Six Nations to 5 weeks.

The Aviva Premiership have officially put in their proposal to change the Six Nations from a 7 to 5 week period.

This is down to bigger clubs which are effected by the tournament feeling that 7 weeks without some of their top players is too long and could be pivotal in their season. The request has been backed by other countries who also believe the tournament is carried out over an overly large period of time.

This is understandable, as if key players are out down to international duty, then club sides are at a disadvantage; this does not allow them to show the club’s full potential. Although, if we do see the Six Nations get compacted to 5 weeks, is it possible that we will see the quality of Rugby deteriorate down to factors such as fatigue, injury and pressure?

The appeal is set to be looked into by the Six Nations. Who thinks a shorter tournament would be better?
