The Bledisloe Cup could be played in New Jersey according to the Australian Rugby Union’s website.
The green light has been given for Sydney’s ANZ Stadium to undergo a major reconstruction, which will reduce its capacity while the building work goes ahead.
The rugby.com.au website reported on Friday that Australian Rugby Union officials visited New York last year to have meetings with the local tourism body and Met Life Stadium, which is home to the New York NFL teams, the Jets and Giants.
If the test went ahead, it’s likely to be one of the fixtures usually held in Australia, rather than one of the New Zealand hosted Bledisloe Cup tests.
The test would also be used to promote Australia to Americans and receive financial support from Australian government departments.
The All Blacks are due to play a test against Ireland in November this year at Soldier Field in Chicago.
There have been two Bledisloe Cup tests played outside New Zealand or Australia in the past.
In 2008 the two nations played each other in Hong Kong and a year later they held a test in Tokyo.
