The Biggest Transfer Rumours Of 2016 So Far

transfer rumours

We’ve gathered together all of the latest transfer rumours for 2016 and compiled them into one big list. Here are the biggest so far…

Rhys Webb to Bath

Bath are reportedly keen to sign a new scrum half having seen Nikola Matawalu struggle to settle in at The Rec. Welsh scrum half Rhys Webb is being strongly linked with the club at the moment, the only catch being that as he enters his prime, his international aspirations could be hampered by ‘Gatland’s Law’. Alternatively Bath are thought to be keeping a close eye on Kahn Fotuali’i at Northampton Saints should a move for Webb fail to materialise.

Toby Flood to Sale Sharks

With the departure of Danny Cipriani to Wasps this summer, Sale are keen to replace him with another top class fly half. The club are believed to be keen on another English qualified recruit with Toby Flood at the top of their list, although Worcester are also reportedly courting the former Leicester star. Alternatively, Sale are also keeping a close eye on Rhys Priestland’s situation at Bath with Christian Lealiifano, Elton Jantjies and Lima Sopoaga drawing their interest.

Leone Nakarawa to Racing 92

The Glasgow Warriors Fijian lock looks like he could be set for a move to France with Racing 92 to the front runners at present. The Parisian side are looking to find replacements for the departing Juande Kruger and Luke Charteris and believe the Warriors lock is their ideal man. There are also a number of other French clubs showing interest, but Racing 92 look to be his most likely destination at this stage.

Kurtley Beale to Wasps

The Wallabies utility back looks set to step into the rather large shoes Charles Piutau will be leaving when he heads to Ulster at the end of the season. The move would make Beale one of the best paid players in the world with a contract worth £1.5 million being reported as he looks to link up with his former Rebels teammate Danny Cipriani. There has also been mention that David Pocock could be joining him at the Ricoh as part of a sabbatical from Australian rugby.

George North to Scarlets

The Welsh winger never appears to have properly settled at Franklin’s Gardens and is reportedly keen on a move back to the Scarlets where he will link up with a number of returning players. Although Saints are reportedly keen to keep hold of one of their biggest names, issues surrounding North’s fitness of late and his international availability mean they could be willing to part ways with the Welshman.

Tendai Mtawarira to Northampton Saints

With Alex Corbisiero having been released from his Northampton contract, and concerns that the Waller brothers are on England’s radar, Director of Rugby Jim Mallinder is keen to recruit a top class loosehead to step in. Given there were serious rumours about Mtawarira leaving South Africa last year, it is believed he could be persuaded to make the move this time around thanks to the increased salary cap in the Premiership.

Ben Franks to Toulon

Having only joined London Irish in October, this one may be a bit of a long shot, however should the Premiership club end up being relegated they could find the former All Black opts to move on. Given their issues at tighthead this year, Toulon would reportedly be the frontrunners for Franks signature as they are also keen to add more experience to their front row. They will however face stiff competition from a number of Premiership and Top14 rivals.

Stuart Lancaster to Harlequins

On the coaching front, Stuart Lancaster is reportedly one of the front runners to take over from the departing Conor O’Shea at Harlequins this summer. Although he may not be a favourite amongst fans, the Quins board are keen to add some stability to the side and believe the former England head coach is the ideal candidate. There are also suggestions Bath could be interested in Lancaster should they opt to part ways with Mike Ford.

Johnny Williams and Alex Lewington to Northampton Saints

Wing and inside centre remain two areas of concern for the Saints, especially with the futures of the Pisi brothers and George North in doubt. They are therefore believed to be keeping a close eye on the situation at London Irish and have their sights on both inside centre Johnny Williams, and winger Alex Lewington who are likely to seek a move should the Reading based side end up being relegated as they are both keen to secure their international futures.

Delon Armitage to Bath

Given the depth of talent Toulon currently have at full back, there are rumours gathering force that Delon Armitage could be seeking a move back to the Premiership. Bath are believed to be the frontrunners at present as they look to establish more cover in the back three for international call ups, especially as Horacio Agulla looks set to depart at the end of the season. There could however be a number of Premiership suitors seeking his signature.
