Gatland says his team are going to take a pretty direct approach, and Ford is right in the firing line
Warren Gatland has sent out a warning to George Ford indicating that Wales will look to run down the diminutive fly-half’s channel at Twickenham on Saturday.
Gatland says his team are going to take a pretty direct approach in the likely Six Nations title decider against England and that they “won’t disappoint” Ford in terms of how they play.
So the Bath No 10 can expect to see the likes of Jamie Roberts and Jonathan Davies heading his way on a regular basis.
At just 5ft 10ins and 13st 3lbs, Ford is dwarfed by Lions centre Roberts, who is 6ft 4ins and tips the scales at 17st 5lbs.
So he could well be in for a busy day defensively.
“We won’t disappoint George Ford in terms of where we go on Saturday,” declared Gatland.
“We won’t be throwing the ball over the place, we are going to be pretty direct. We need to earn the right to go wide and we have got players to get us across the advantage line.
“And hopefully when we do that, we can play some pretty positive rugby.”
