According to reports, the Tonga squad have visited the same chicken restaurant ten days in a row while some players have been going more than once a day. That’s some commitment to cheekiness.
The team is based in Exeter and has apparently been preparing for matches by gorging on Nando’s. They needn’t feel too bad, though, apparently they’re not the only players at this tournament overdoing it when it comes to food.
Apparently the Canadian team’s kitchen staff needed to rush to the supermarket to buy steaks after the squad consumed 22lbs of roast beef in 15 minutes. Even Adam Richman might be impressed by that kind of prowess.
The players need more than 5000 calories a day, with an allowance of bacon, pancakes, maple syrup, blueberries, strawberries and yoghurt on match days. It doesn’t get much more Canadian than that.
Oh, and they even carry their own supply of hot sauce. What a wonderful world.
