Should This Be The Springboks 31-Man Squad For The Rugby World Cup

South Africa's Mtawarira reacts as Habana is clear to score a try during their rugby test match against Italy in Durban

We take a look at how the Springboks 31-man Rugby World Cup squad may look when the tournament begins in September…

The Springboks look particularly strong at hooker with all three players selected capable of stepping up at the World Cup.

1. Bismarck du Plessis

2. Adriaan Strauss

3.Schalk Brits

The props represent an interesting selection of youth versus experience with players like Malherbe and Kitshoff pushing hard for a start.

4.Tendai Mtwarira

5.Steven Kitshoff

6.Jannie du Plessis

7.Frans Malherbe

8.Trevor Nyanke

Etzebeth and Matfield look likely to be the starting combination, whilst de Jager and van der Merwe provide good cover.

9.Eben Etzebeth

10.Victor Matfield

11.Lood de Jager

12.Flip van der Merwe

Back Row

The Springboks will be desperately hoping Vermeulen recovers in time for the World Cup, if he does this back row should compliment each other well.

13.Francois Louw

14.Schalk Burger

15.Marcell Coetzee

16.Duane Vermeuelen

17.Heinrich Brussow

Scrum Half

Pienaar and du Preez provide good experience whilst Reinach offers something a bit different. Pienaar can also cover 10 if needs be.

18.Ruan Pienaar

19.Cobus Reinach

20.Fourie du Preez

Fly Half

It looks like Pollard and Lambie will battle it out for the starting 10 shirt whilst having cover from Steyn and Pienaar.

21.Handre Pollard

22.Pat Lambie

Kriel and de Allende have impressed so far for the Boks, whilst if de Villiers is fit he will provide a huge boost in the centres.

23.Damian de Allende

24.Jesse Kriel

25.Jean de Villiers

26.Morne Steyn

Back Three

Again there is a good mix of styles and experience in the back three, with players able to cover a variety of positions if necessary.

27.Bryan Habana

28.Cornal Hendricks

29.Lwazi Mvovo

30.JP Pietersen

31.Willie le Roux

My opinion that is not a good selection… We need more attacking players. People not scared of attacking the line and players… Frans Steyn, Jacques Fourie, Faf de Klerk, Jaco Kriel, and many more. We still playing conservative rugby, we need to think out of the box and bring something no one else have thought off. ” Stampkar” rugby is not smart rugby anymore, it over and done and we not getting anywhere. Our backs at this point are only there for defense,
