With the majority of 2014 over and done with we look at the top 10 full backs this year and rank them in descending order…

10.Tommy Seymour

Seymour may not receive the plaudits quite like some of the players on this list, but despite this he has been a key man in the improving fortunes of both Glasgow and Scotland during 2014.

9.Manuel Montero

Argentina winger Montero announced himself on the international scene with a stunning debut in the Rugby Championship which he will be hoping to build on ahead of the World Cup next year.

8.Teddy Thomas

French winger Thomas announced his arrival on the international scene with a hat trick on his debut and followed this up the next week with another try. He now looks likely to be a key player for France in 2015.

7.Yoann Huget

During one of the worst spells in French rugby, Huget has been one of the brightest sparks, scoring tries in a team bereft of ideas and generally helping to keep France in games they should have lost by more.

6.Rene Ranger

Ranger may no longer be available for the All Blacks having moved to France, but his performances over the last 12 months in the Top 14 mean he is a big loss for Steve Hansen’s side ahead of the World Cup.

5.Tommy Bowe

Bowe continues to be a key man for Ireland, scoring tries on a regular basis and using his experience to help those players around him. Joe Schmidt will be hoping he can stay fit ahead of the World Cup.

4.Bryan Habana

Despite turning 31 over the summer, Haban still looks like one of the most deadly finishers in World Rugby. His try scoring form and experience will be key for the Springboks heading into the World Cup in 2015.

3.George North

North’s form has been a little mixed for Wales over the last 12 months, however he has been superb for Northampton this year seemingly scoring tries at will in the Premiership and European Champions Cup.

2.Ben Smith

Smith is quite simply one of the most rounded rugby players in the world right now. The only issue is where the All Blacks should play him as he just as effective at full back as he is out on the wing.

1.Julian Savea

Savea is currently the most potent attacking threat in all of world rugby. He is capable of producing moments of magic from anywhere on the field and seems to score tries almost at will.

Who do you think has been the best winger in the world during 2014?
