Steve Hansen has confirmed Sonny Bill Williams will definitely be on the All Blacks’ end of year tour.
Williams has been granted an exemption by the New Zealand Rugby Union, allowing him to be eligible for the All Blacks without having to play in the ITM Cup.
Coach Hansen told Radio Sport’s Martin Devlin that’s partly come through him.
“What I asked for was I’d like to take him on the end of year tour. So the exemption’s come about because there may be some grey area in that if he doesn’t get back here then we couldn’t take him.”
Hansen says the midfielder will have no issues transferring from the NRL.
“A classic example is Brad Thorn. He went away probably when he was just starting to understand the game, went back and played league, come back and straight away picked the game up quickly because he had a better understanding than he had when he first started.”
He says there are limited tests between now and the World Cup and they need to give him game time.
