Scots College thrashed rivals Newington College 101-0 in Sydney’s Greater Public Schoolboy’s competition resulting in the competition drawing criticism from all angles.
New South Wales Rugby Union chairman Nick Farr-Jones was one of the first to raise concerns after the joint 2013 Premiership champions fell to the humiliating defeat.
“I don’t think it is great for the winner and I seriously don’t think it’s great for the losers and their parents,” Farr-Jones, a former student at Newington College, said.
“If I was a parent it wouldn’t have given me any pleasure,” he said.
“My first concern is safety,” he said. “There can be a mismatch in power.
“But they are very strong team and that doesn’t happen most years, that level of mismatch. All the stars have aligned for them.”
