7 Full Backs Who Are Killing it Right Now!

There currently seems a plethora of full backs who are at the absolute top of their game. In a number of instances these players are the stand-out players for club and country week in and week out. Below we take a look at 7 full backs who are currently tearing it up on the field.

1Willie-le-Roux

1 Israel Folau

Folau has been a sensation in rugby union since making his switch from rugby league. This year however he seems to have really stepped it up another level for the Warratahs having scored 8 tries already this season despite having missed a couple of games through injury.

2 Nick Abendanon

The Bath man may be off to Clermont at the end of the season, however that has not stopped him hitting a super run of form in the second half of the season. Every time he gets his hands on the ball he seems to make ground like not many others can.

3 Willie le Roux

le Roux currently seems to be one of the most underrated players in world rugby. He is obviously highly regarded having made the Springboks 15 shirt his own but a lot of people don’t seem to realise just what a complete package he has become.

4. Delon Armitage

The former England full back may not be turning out for his national side anymore having moved to France, however his form this season for Toulon has been sensational. Despite signing James O’Connor and Leigh Halfpenny for next season Toulon were still keen to offer Armitage a new contract.

5. Stuart Hogg

Hogg may have ended his 6 Nations this year in disappointing fashion having been red carded in the final game of the tournament, however his form recently has been outstanding. In Hogg Scotland finally have themselves a player with the X Factor.

6. Jesse Mogg

The Aussie full back may have to face serious competition from Folau for the Wallaby 15 shirt, however his form so far this season means he will certainly be competing. His form has helped propel the Brumbies to the top of the Super XV table.

7. Mike Brown

The 6 Nations player of the tournament, Mike Brown has well and truly become one of the stand-out players in World Rugby. His form over the last 12 months has seen him become the first name on Stuart Lancaster’s team sheet.

  1. I’m English and the bias towards us in your articles is really quite silly, I’ve seen your article on 1/2p and it is ludicrous he should be on here no doubt, disregarding the fact he doesn’t fall between interpretation of a proper fullback. Rob Kearney, Robbie Coleman, both in form are leagues above Nick Abendanon and Armitage, and it seems to me you have put in Hogg just to keep people happy. He is not in form.

    • I’m afraid I just really don’t agree regarding Halfpenny, no doubt he’s a solid full back but if it wasn’t for his kicking I really don’t think he would be so highly regarded. Fair point re Kearney, it was a close call including him or Armitage but the HC game last weekend swung it the way of Delon!

  2. a better list:
    1.Folau
    2.Kearney
    3.Le Roux
    4.Mike Brown
    5.Mogg
    6.Coleman
    7.Ben Smith

  3. add israel dagg

  4. DTNicoll, one has to take into account the rigidity of the game plans Halfpenny has been told to play by Wales and the Blues over the past few years. His attacking potential has been proven, look at the Lions, or even his H Cup try against Toulon. Surprised Liam Williams hasn’t been included, but as much as it pains me to say it, ‘Benders’ has had a fantastic season.

  5. TIM NANI WILLIAMS!!!!!
