Six Nations 2014 Awards

Try of the Tournament

Jamie Roberts’ second try v Scotland was a real cracker, an 80m team try that was superbly fished off. Fickou ran this close.

Player of the Tournament

Mike Brown has been awesome for England. Phenomenal running lines, power and side steps have made him the form player in the world.

Tackle of the Tournament

Leigh Halfpenny’s tackle on Luther Burrell was incredible. 18 stone at full flight may have dislocated his shoulder, but he saved what would have been an awesome try, and a huge momentum shift in the game.

Offload of the Tournament

Billy Vunipola’s audacious behind the back pass v Scotland was a magnificent sight and a really skilled moment by such a big man.

Pass of the Tournament

Brian O’Driscoll’s flick to Jonny Sexton was pure genius and set up a try.

Atmosphere of the Tournament

England v Ireland’s atmosphere was huge. Twickenham’s roar has grown and grown recently and has fed England’s home success.

Heartbreak of the Tournament

Gael Fickou’s try at the Stade de France was painful for the thousands of England supporters to watch. Otherwise, England would have got a Grand Slam.

Football moment of the Tournament

Louis Picamoles sarcastically applauding the referee in the Welsh game. This is not soccer to quote Nigel Owens, and this sort of behaviour has no right to exist in our game.

Twitter Moment of the Tournament

Mike Phillips spat with Niall Horan was probably a little bit childish, but deserves this prize. Dylan Hartley’s selfie ran a close second.

  1. So Ireland win the Championship and only have 4 players in the team, meanwhile England have 8 players? Ridiculous amount of bias there

    • Which Irish players would you swap in may I ask?

      • Victor Edward Long

Best, bod, poc. Hartley getting in here is nothing short of a joke.

        • Best and Paul O’Connel I agree with, plus Trimble on a wing but I don’t think O’Driscoll played better than either centre. Maybe Heaslip but Picamoles, Parisse and Denton also played well.

      • I’m English and I’d put in Heaslip at 8 and maybe BOD instead of Roberts (shifting Burrell to inside centre)?

      • trimble for north, toner for launchbury and burrell and o driscoll were neck and neck so i can deal with that one.

    • Hello Niall,
Sorry to see you disappointed over this selection, Yet for BOD to make the team would’ve been one step too far in this media hype over his farewell. Yes, he has been one of the greatest players of all time, however his Man of the Match v France was undeserved and Burrell has been playing out of skin, and Roberts is back to his best. Dylan Hartley may of been a mistake, yet he has been a talisman for England and has made lots of tackles and carries. Heaslip hasn’t had his best six nations, but neither has any other Number 8’s. Morgan has been awesome on and off the ball.
      Thank you,
      Doug.

      • if you are actually serious in believing that Burrell had a better tournament than BOD, I actually feel sorry for you

      • Best had a great tournament, much better than Hartley. Andrew Trimble should have been given a place on either wing, Burrell was excellent and while I agree O’Driscoll shouldn’t get it for sentimental reasons alone, those 2 were neck and neck. Devin Toner should definitely be in instead of Launchbury, he had a massive Six Nations

      • Oh and while Ben Morgan is a good player, he didn’t play enough matched to qualify for consideration for a team of the tournament in my opinion. Parisse was far from his best, Picamloes was ok, Denton was quite good. Heaslip wasn’t at his best either but performed quite well. To be honest even Vunipola deserves a place in the team more than Morgan.

      • Uhh parisse and Denton where far better than Morgan and deserve the no. 8 spot a lot more

    • agreed..1 irish back and thats it. Bias of warren gatland proportions here!

    • This site seems to swing in favour of England, particularly in the forwards, and while the irish and scots may be underrepresented the french and Italians are almost always ignored.

  2. Thought Trimble ahead of Hugget, not to mention Denton had a great campaign, even if Scotland struggled

  3. Victor Edward Long

Ridiculous bias here!!! Hartley in team if the tournament? He’s fourth best behind best, hibbard and schwarski. Ben Morgan didn’t even start the tournament. Mike brown was quite exceptional tho!

  4. Craig Lewis Hamilton

No Scottish or Italian players? The teams might not have performed but they still had standout players

  5. Campagnaro and Trimble had phenomenal tournaments.. And no way should Hartley, Lawes or Morgan be there.. Morgan didn’t even start 4 matches ffs…

  6. clearly some English retard has written this

  7. yeah everyone gets that England are bitter about losing (as always) but no need to make it so obvious #sorelosers
