Rising Stars – Newcastle Falcons

joel hodgson newcastle falconsAs Newcastle Falcons prepare for life back in the top flight of English rugby, we take a look at some of the youngsters who could be set to have a big season at the club…

Joel Hodgson :

A talented fly half, Joel Hodgson has spent much of his time as an understudy to Jimmy Gopperth who departed for Leinster over summer. Hodgson also impressed during the pre season and has all the attributes that will make a cracking out half. This will be the season for Hodgson to make his mark following the Falcons return to the Premiership. Expect to see quite a bit of him at Kingston Park.
Zach Kibirige :
A talented winger who thought he had won the B&I Cup final for the Falcons last season, only for it to be snatched away, Kibrige is pacy and has already proven himself at his current level at the tender age of nineteen. Now involved in the U20’s set up for England, it looks like Kibrige will continue to flourish at a reasonable rate and will prove a good asset over the course of the season.
Dominic Barrow :
A huge acquisition for the Falcons is none other than Dominic Barrow. Signed from Leeds Carnegie to add yet another to the Falcons squad over summer, Barrow has already won a IRB Junior World Championship and Six Nations medal at his age group and despite being just twenty is already recognised as someone who can produce the goods. Possibly the best signing for the future the Falcons have made in a considerable period of time.
Danny Barnes :
The Falcons added yet another signing over summer in the form of Munster player Danny Barnes. Barnes who has appeared at U20 level for Ireland is contracted to a two year deal and has already made an appearance in the Heineken Cup against Northampton Saints as well as the RaboPRO12
at the position of centre
Kieran Brookes :
The final signing to focus on that is of a promising nature and is still at a maturing age is prop Kieran Brookes. Having played for Leicester Tigers, Brookes got a loan deal with the Falcons earlier this year and has now signed a permanent deal. His honours include caps for England Saxons and despite his young age it will be likely he may try and bring leadership qualities to the pitch.
