The nominations are in for this seasons Premiership rugby player of the year. There’s a great mix of the unsung heroes of club rugby combined with the top international performers in the league. It’s great to see young English talent nominated in Tom Youngs and Christian Wade whilst experienced operators such as Steve Brothwick and Julian Salvi also get a mention for their consistent brilliance that often goes unnoticed during the season.

It’s fair to say the judges have an incredibly tough choice this year with no single player standing head and shoulders above the rest. Do you go for the dynamic brilliance of a starlet like Wade who has also begun to develop the defensive side to his game or a consistent operator who is integral to a sides success such as Akapusi Qera?
My vote for player of the season this year has to go to the magnificent Steve Borthwick who has been such an important part of Saracens rise to the top of the league. His great work in the loose combined with being such a nuisance at opponents set pieces means he stands out above the others. An honourable mention must go to Julian Salvi who is truly one of the unsung heroes of Leicester’s continued presence at the top of the table and Christian Wade who would take our young player of the year award for his continued ability to get us to stand up out of our seats every time he touches the ball.
